Thinking fixed myself... got a different new salsa front ring and new chain for the old raleigh. 48x18 is a bit too tall for gravel, me thinks.... the 40t should be better.

Gearing? I will be 36x18. Maybe 36x16 but not sure yet.

Boys, boys - I was just kidding. They made those gears for a very good reason, and I use most all of them.
